Antidepressants

Realised this morning I have run out of my main antidepressant - Escitolopram.
I have a prescription, but this week didn't get round to getting it from the chemist. Next week is so stupidly busy it won't be easy to do either. And given everything else, I'm just not going to bother.

I have to ask the question, is that really wise? Not being prescriptive, just asking.. and sending love, x

Hi D

You know my sceptism of medication but I think if something helps then to not have it is not good.

Also, the body gets used to medication. You might have withdrawal effects. Not scaremongering certainly not meaning to...more important is that you don't have the issue of dealing with uncertainty..any more than you have to.

My advice would be to get the medication soon as. If you ever want to stop taking the medication then seek advice first..from all those you trust. And if you are going to stop taking it, withdraw slowly.

Thinking of you

That is what happened to me. I ran out and was so busy with work and school that I did not refill it. Now things have calmed down to the point where I could refill it, but the question is, will I? I've been reading so much about medication lately that I am not sure I want to add something back into my body.

I hear you all. I just don't know what I want to do right now.

Should you change your mind your local out of hours GP service should be able to give you a small amount (or have a duty pharmacy open who will do the same) NOW. I understand where you're coming from and have to say that my daughter is no worse off (or better) without hers but hubby gets very nasty headaches when withdrawing from these tablets and it's supposed to be better to do so gradually.

thanks Marcella. Our outof hours service is at the hospital so I won't be going there, but I will bear it in mind. It's more not feeling worth taking the meds if you can understand that. More of my usual hate relationship with med - and myself.

Hi D

Whatever you choose to do is rightly up to you but please try to be kind to yourself whilst doing it.
