Taking it to its simplest....

I have a long list of things I need to change. I can't change my thinking at the moment because that part of my brain seems to have shut down. So I am instructed to change my behaviours. Specifically I should:
Eat properly
Avoid alcohol
Stop scratching at my arms
Take time to nurture myself by doing things I enjoy
Exercise to minimise the anxiety

But at times I feel so overwhelmed by my emotions that I am purely a reactive being.

Suggestions welcomed (but please be as gentle as you can).

gentle....yes, and you be gentle to yourself too. take one goal out of your market basket at a time.....as I'm writing this, I will try to re-learn this as well, because I try to take on too many "to dos" all at once and it just gets too daunting.

So.......one at a time.......and break down the goal......so that it's achievable.

Today, coincidentally, I was teaching a lesson on "goal setting" and action planning.....and used the analogy S.M.A.R.T. It stands for "specific" (be specific about what it is you want) "measurable," "action oriented," "realistic" and make sure theres a "timeline"

So......if you're looking at eating properly.....start with breakfast for example.....be specific about what you are going to eat, how much, when and how often, how will you know, and for how long......this allows you to tailor it to you..... :)

Does this help?

Do you have any feeling about which of those is either a)most damaging to you or b)something you could maybe begin to change without too much pain and struggle
My inclination would be to work on doing things that you might reasonably hope to enjoy and see if they produce enough neutral, if not positive feelings to encourage you to take on one of the other goals. But there are alot of things there...so you truly mustn't beat yourself up about not managing them instantly.
Meanwhile, thinking of you and sending love and hugs

Thank you for giving me "permission" to not do all of them at once. That was what i was trying to do - that was what has been suggested.

I'll blog about how I am going to do this.

Awareness - we use SMART targets too in school. that's a good reminder and I will try to build it in to the plans.
