Minutes of last month's Trust Board (discovered through detective work, since the links do not work) show that the Board are considering investing money in securing backing for their bid for Foundation Trust status. From the minutes:
Celia Bennett asked whether the Trust had considered appointing a company to assist with the recruitment of members. Helen Buckingham said that she was to meet with Debbie Dunning on 12th May to look at internal and external methods of recruitment as well as engaging staff in membership matters. Debbie advised that enquiries had been made of external organisations for recruitment. The cost would be approximately £9 for every member they recruited.
So, if I understand this correctly, the Board are considering paying a company £9 for each member the said company recruits as signatories to BLPT's bid for Foundation Trust status.
BLPT need members of the public to sign up to Foundation Trust status. One requirement for a successful bid for FT status is that the Trust have support from the local community.
They have only been able to recruit 1800 of the supporters they need. (This includes their own staff!)
It looks like they are accepting they cannot, on their own, obtain this support.
An external company may be brought in to recruit support.
This company will charge £9 for every member they recruit on behalf of BLPT.
Which mental health services will be cut in order to pay the £9 per member?

So BLPT are paying another company to recruit members?
It must be legal but is it ethical well that is a matter for those who know what is happening to decide.
And there must be more than £9 per head in it for the company, unless they are certain they are going get hundreds of people recruited.

I don't like it either. I can think of plenty of ways I would rather all this Foundation Trust money could be spent.
