A funny

I was finishing off a lesson with some Year 5 pupils this morning. It is Science Week this week and so, entering in to the spirit of things, I had devoted my writing lesson (with a group of struggling writers) to biographical writing with a focus on Thomas Edison. I'd tried to make it into something of a detecting activity, with props to illustrate various key points. Among these was a mock up voting form, using the names of party leaders (OK, so I knew most of the pupils would have no idea who they were, but there you go) to illustrate the fact that Edison invented an electronic voting method.

At the end of the lesson, I asked pupils, "Who can tell me one thing Edison invented?", pointing to the various visual clues.
Harry's hand shot up.
"Yes Harry?"
"He invented Gordon Brown."

The class fell about, as I did, and as did the members of staff I told this to.
