Friday...

Had a good lesson this morning - as with previous classes, today's lapped up the smilies. In fact, a couple of girls talked to me afterwards and commented themselves on how well everyone joined in, and how much better the behaviour of certain boys was (if they shouted out, I removed a smiley!) It was a really enjoyable lesson.

Good conversations at work too. My friend Alex asked me about a patchwork cushion she wants to make, and we have provisionally agreed to have a day at my house making it. Mind you, I will have to clear up the chaos that is my quilting room (aka the dining room!) before then... Talked with Michelle too, albeit briefly. Got two more birthday cards as well! The head said he wanted to spend some time catching up with me on how things are going - that lasted all of three meetings and, as before, he was only interested in the positives and dismissed the minor concerns I expressed. No surprise there, then! I chatted to the head of another year group, who was surprisingly supportive and encouraged me to allow myself not to meet my own standards from time to time!

I also managed to plan my unit of work for next week's English. It's a new unit to me - on Macbeth, which I don't know very well. Although there are quite a few resources, I haven't been able to lay my hands on a scheme of work as yet, so I am making it up. However, I spent my free lesson today on this and completed it - yippee!

After teaching I cam straight home, and then went on to the house of a friend. I haven't seen her for some time, and it was really nice to meet up with her. We had a great lunch and it was good to chat with her. I went straight from her house to the gym. (I've discovered she has joined the same gym, which is nice as hopefully we can meet up and go together to help motivate each other!) My workout at the gym was hard work today, but I guess that's not surprising at the end of my first week back.

Now I'm chilling - have done some genealogy and am going to play some games. Tomorrow I have a quilting day booked, so I must also gather up fabrics and tools for that.

It all sounds great - although a little too much like hard work to me! I hope the Macbeth goes well - saw a great production of it last year but it would probably have been totally unsuitable for schools - VERY gory.

I LOVED MacBeth in all it's gore and splendour.....point out the controversial bits to the students....that's how my teacher pulled us into the whole story. Lady MacBeth's Obsessive compulsive behaviour was interesting......and learning about why she felt compelled to wash her hands so often etc brought the feelings alive in the story.
