Things not to say to your depressed colleagues no. 3

Deputy head: "Can you use the computer while you are at home?"
Me: "Err yes" (thinks - I can surf and play games on it now it is fixed).
Deputy head: "Maybe you could do some work on the school website while you are off work."

Discussed this with my psychologist today. I, trying to reframe my thoughts (away from the guilt to something less painful) suggested that maybe the intention was to make me feel useful or needed; maybe the DH is under pressure to get the website updated (it is my responsibility when I am at work) or maybe he didn't realise how much concentration and thinking is involved (neither concentration nor thinking are my strong points recently).
The psychologist responded, "Or maybe he is tactless and insensitive."

Hmmmm...

I agree with the psychologist, and maybe the DH might just take a look at employment rights, Sally's right if you're off work then you're off work, and suggestions that you might do some work are misguided at best, and at worst probably harrassment (if I could spell it which I don't think I can)

Caroline, I like my psychologist too. Wish I had more than a month left with him...

Sally, Katie, Marcella, Dana - great comments, all of you. Sally, I did decline his kind offer. If I only had the courage, Marcella and Dana...
