Beautiful places

Paul asked here about the most beautiful place each of us has ever been. As others' blogs on this idea have moved me, I thought I too would reflect on this.

This has been one of my favourite places since childhood. It's a beach in Ireland called Inchedoney Strand. Usually deserted, a huge long stretch of sand with a rocky peninsula and sand dunes, it was a place where my imagination could run free, where I could spend time doing nothing. A few years ago we went back - my first visit in over 20 years - and my husband and daughters seemed also to feel something of that same magic. Had it changed? Not noticeably, apart from the upgrade of the rather scruffy hotel to a very posh spa. I love the sea at all times; sitting watching tides rolling in and out has to be one of the most relaxing activities ever.

The Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain, is the most astonishing place. An oasis of greenery in such a hot, dry city, and the love and care put into its creation are truly astounding. From the immaculate gardens to the intricately carved walls - it took our breath away.

The beach looks very similar to some of the beaches close to me....along the New Brunswick coast as well as Prince Edward Island. So, I know I'd LOVE it.

Though I don't live right by the ocean, I do have my river to peak out at......enjoying the water and watching the tides and waves and walking along shores are by far the most therapeutic activities for me...oh, and canoeing. I love canoeing too, though I rarely get a chance to get out for a paddle.

Funny how one just needs to conjure up the pic of our own "beautiful places" and it quickly makes us smile. It is a good reminder of how our thoughts impact our feelings.........a reminder I needed when I initially read Paul's post on Friday.

take care.....

ps. spent a good part of today plodding in my garden......LOTS to do and it felt good to do some of it.

beautiful places... I love the sea too, places that let us breathe - though Lapland was amazingly wonderful too... and that took my breath away!

Ireland is still on my list to visit :)

Inchydoney is lovely, Dana - miles and miles of empty beaches on one side of the peninsula, and all the families seem to go on the other side! Glad you got into your garden.

Katie, Ireland is well worth a visit - this is in the south of Ireland, near Clonakilty (wonderful name!) in County Cork. I recommend it.
