Plodding on

Still bemused by broken promises, ignored requests. Really don't get it. To me, a promise is a promise, whether written or not. To say you will do something and then not to do it - well, I just don't get it. Surely an apology is the minimum? I don't know. Sometimes I think I am operating in a different reality - and other times i know it to be so.

One day of complicated transportation timetables down. No idea how many more to go.

can't agree more - promises are promises and should be kept whether written or not - and if not, an explanation or apology should be forthcoming... on any matter..
however that doesn't seem to be the norm, and in fact I am getting used to the opposite - if someone actually keeps a promise I think they are wonderful, fantastic, and have done something really special...
it's a strange old world...
hugs for you tonight, xx

i'm told there was once a time, long long ago when people would be completely bemused if a promise was broken working entirely on the basis that it would be kept...personally i don't remmeber it, adn like Katie i'm gobsmacked whenever anyone keeps a promise.

i suspect you may find that the people/ institution involved in this don't do promises, they do duties, obligations and contracts. They quite simply don't have a framework for anything as human as a 'promise'.

life is odd, even more odd if we thrown schools into the equation.
thinking of you yesterday as I juggled reports and christmas play, new maths books while hearing readers, batteries for the dvd remote and lost chunky pencils.....

Here's to the end of term..

Katie, thank you. It's interesting that you sense that explanations / apologies are no longer the norm. I guess I sense that too, and it puzzles me.
C - I do remember promises being special, being kept. I think you are right about the organisation - and about many organisations. the lack of humanity is a good point too.
mmp - ah well, schools are just odd full stop. I'm on countdown now - 8 days left.
